First time shavers use Trimmers to cut hair as close to the scalp as possible. Prepare for a safety razor shave by soaking head for a few minutes in warm water then apply a quality Shave Preparation.
If you are shaving into the shower, look straight into a fogless shower mirror. Divide head into two sides with an imaginary median running front to back in the middle (area 1). Shave one side first beginning at the front (forehead) and shave backwards towards your crown using long smooth, light strokes. Rinse blade after each pass. Shave until you get close to your ears (area 2). Be careful around side burns and ears using short, light strokes. Repeat with blade in opposite hand for other side of head.
Look downward with chin on chest to stretch and smooth skin on back of head while shaving this area. Shave the back of your head (area 3) beginning on your crown shaving downward (with the grain) towards your neck using light strokes.
Rinse your head with cold water using your fingers to check for any oversights. Complete your shave by taking one light stroke against the grain on those areas you missed. (To avoid irritation, no more than 2-3 strokes over any one area).
